Following the 1959 Greek Championship title, PAOK went after next year’s title as well till the end, but lost it to details. With Giorgos Ekonomou once again being the pillar of the team, PAOK lost a mere single game in a whole season. The team lost to Olympiacos 60-67 for the 3rd day of the tournaments, but that result was enough to deprive PAOK of the title and instead award it to the ‘reds’.
What followed was not up to par, since the Champion 1959 team began losing its key members one by one. The most important loss was that of Giorgos Ekonomou (he transferred to Triton), while the rest of the players of that team either quit basketball or left PAOK, signaling the need for regrouping.
