Ilias Papatheodorou talked about the lack of motivation for his team during a whole week of practicing, commenting on the heavy loss PAOK suffered at the OAKA to Panathinaikos, for the 22nd day of the betshop Basket League.
“First of all, I would like to congratulate Panathinaikos for qualifying for the Euroleague playoffs. It was a great achievement, especially thanks to way the team was playing during the past two months and I wish them all the best in the competition. Athens was beautiful, we got to see it… It rained a little bit yesterday, this morning was a little better. It “rained” a little bit here on the court as well and now we are heading back home…”
On whether he was disappointed by his team’s outlook: «It’s been the same the whole week. I’m not surprised, especially when you play against a team like Panathinaikos».
On how he explains the performance: «I can only interpret a few things, but when we are with a team like PAOK, we need to respect that, regardless of any other possible issues and present ourselves like a normal team. I can’t know what anyone’s mental reserves are. We don’t seem to have any, and this is a problem, because we have one month ahead of us plus the playoffs. We need to find motivation… The guys are faced with a lot, they have been through difficult situations from the beginning of the season and up to now and it’s not easy to maintain a certain level, when you don’t actually have anything to expect in particular, but you still have to try. If we don’t try, then more ugly nights like this one are ahead».
