PAOK failed to have a successful premiere with the Basketball Champions League, losing to Besiktas 55-69. PAOK was dominating the game for 35 minutes, but remained scoreless in the last five ones, receiving a 0-14 streak and hence losing the game.
The two teams were close from the beginning, with PAOK getting score from JeQuan Lewis and Adam Smith and Besiktas from Todrick Gotcher and the first quarter ending with the hosts leading by one (17-16).
PAOK maintained the lead throughout the second quarter, playing very good defense and with 2 free throws by JeQuan Lewis, was leading 33-27 at 18'. Besiktas got to make a one point game at the end of the first half though (33-32) following a three by Gotcher.
Defense became much stronger in the third quarter, and PAOK got to trail at 26’ (38-42). With a bucket and one by Zane Knowles and a three by JeQuan Lewis at the end though, the hosts once again got to lead (49-47).
PAOK made a very good beginning in the fourth quarter and with two threes by Amanze Egekeze was leading 60-55, 5’21’’ before the end. However, PAOK did not succeed at scoring at all down the stretch while Besiktas ran a partial 0-14, hence getting the 60-69 victory.
